About
I am Kalman Banu. I build Syrvos — quotes, clients, invoices and payments for small service businesses — on my own, from Brisbane. It is pre-launch, and I do the product, the code, the billing and the support.

What I actually do
I am building one product, alone. That means I write the code, but it also means I answer the support email, decide what the pricing is, chase the failed card payment and fix the thing that broke at eleven at night. There is nobody to hand any of it to.
People treat that as a limitation. Mostly it is the opposite. I cannot ship a feature I do not understand well enough to support, and I find out a decision was wrong from the person it was wrong for, not from a report about them.
Syrvos is not open yet. When it opens, the early access list goes first.
I run my own infrastructure, on purpose
Syrvos will ask small businesses to trust it with their invoices and their card payments. I did not want to learn what that trust actually costs on their data, so I learned it on mine first.
Everything this business runs on, I host and operate myself:
- The mail server that sends every email I send
- The calendar you booked on, if you booked a call
- The CRM, the automation and the databases underneath both
- The reverse proxy, the certificates and the firewall in front of all of it
That is more work than paying for the hosted versions, and I would not recommend it to most people. What it buys is that when something goes wrong in production I have already met that failure at three in the morning on my own box, and I know what it looks like before a customer has to describe it to me.
Most of what I write about comes from there.
What I know something about
Narrowly: field service software, and what it is actually like to quote, invoice and get paid when you are the one holding the tools.
Technically: multi-tenant architecture, subscription billing, and the unglamorous end of running software that other businesses depend on — backups you have actually restored from, migrations that cannot be undone, and the difference between a system that is monitored and one that only appears to be.
I am not an authority on artificial intelligence in general and I am not going to write as though I am. I am a person shipping a real product, in public, with the specifics left in.
Getting hold of me
The best thing you can do is book twenty minutes and tell me how your business handles quotes today. Failing that, [email protected] reaches me directly. I read everything.
If you would rather read first, the writing is where the detail lives.
